Getting ready 3

TEAMBUILDING ACTIVITIES

Before our trip to Ozorków we spent a month getting ready for the project meeting. Besides other preparations (see below), we also tried some taembuilding activities.

1 My name is x… and I like x..

All students stand in a circle and the first introduces like „My name is x… and I like x..”. The second repeats what has been said („ His name is x… and he likes x…) and adds information about himself / herself. The thing or activity that you say that you like must start with the same letter as your first name. The last student has to repeat the information about all the previous ones and so i tis a real challenge.

2 Count to Ten

All students stand in circle. First student says “1,” or “1, 2.” The next student picks up where that student left off, and can say a maximum number of 2 numbers. The movement continues clockwise until it gets to 10, where that student has to sit, and the game starts back over at 1 at the next student. Note that there can be no pausing or silent counting—any pauses or indications the student is counting/calculating forces them to sit. The big idea is to count strategically so that you can keep from saying “10.”

3 Change your place if …

All students sit on the chairs in a circle except for one who stands in the middle. This student gives a fact about himself / herself and says e.g. “Change your place if you love chocolate”, “ …… if you hate spinach”, ” …..if you don´t drink milk”, “ …. If you can´t cook” etc. If it is true about another student / other students, they stand up and sit on a different chair. The student, who stays without a chair to sit on, stands in the middle and gives another instruction.

4 Fact or Fiction

In circle, first student offers two facts and one piece of fiction about themselves. Others raise hand or are called on to identify which were facts, and which were fictions. The correct guesser goes next. Play is completed when all students have gone.

5 Marshmallow Tower

Give each team a bag of marshmallows and a box of toothpicks. Give them 5 minutes to plan and 5 minutes to build a freestanding tower using only the marshmallows and the toothpicks. The tallest tower still standing at the end of the 5 minutes wins. This can get quite messy, but it's a lot of fun.

6 Paper Chain

Divide group into teams (roughly 3-4 people per team). Distribute 2 sheets of printing paper and a bit of glue per team and instruct them not to touch them. Exercise Leader will then announce that the goal of the exercise is to create the longest paper chain with the materials provided (no scissors!!!). On the leader’s command, each team will be given 2 minutes to create their chain.
